This professional development opportunity is available to conductors of underrepresented groups, with preference given to applicants with conducting/teaching experience who have completed their undergraduate degree program. Award winners will receive tuition-free participation in one of our sponsoring conducting symposia, as well as reimbursement for travel expenses of up to $500 provided by CBDNA. Woman Band Director Scholarships and Grants
WBDI scholarships serve to provide financial support to women music education students who are studying to become future band directors.Additionally scholarships can be given to women band directors who seek to further their education through attending conducting workshops. WBDI grants promote diversity and inclusion in the K-12 school and community bands. They provide financial assistance for these selected band programs to pursue and actively engage in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Conducting Study Grants
The CBDNA Diversity Committee will be accepting applications for the Mike Moss Conducting Study Grants for summer workshops. This professional development opportunity is available to women and underrepresented minorities, with preference given to applicants with conducting/teaching experience who have completed their undergraduate degree program.
Award winners will receive tuition-free participation in one of our sponsoring conducting symposia this summer (listed below), as well as reimbursement for travel expenses up to $500 provided by CBDNA for qualifying workshops.
You will be prompted to upload a current CV, video samples of conducting, a brief personal essay regarding your professional goals, and to list the names/contact of two references. Dates and location of symposia are presented on the application in order for applicants to rank their symposium preferences. The CBDNA Diversity Committee, who will make award notifications by early March, makes final decisions regarding the selection and placement of award recipients.
In order for a music educator to be eligible for a Directors’ Academy Scholarship, he/she must meet at least one of the following criteria, and have not attended Summer Symposium since 2014: • Educator teaches at a middle or high school where 60% or more of students are enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program. • Educator is an ethnic or other minority as defined and eligible for most Federal (US) governmental grant programs (African-American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and Native Pacific Islander). • Educator teaches in a small or rural school/district setting (defined as a district in which 500 or fewer students are enrolled in grades 9-12). • Educator is in his/her first three years of teaching, or has completed a degree in music education within the last year and has an offer of employment as an ensemble music teacher.
